THE matric class of Gill College made everybody proud by achieving a 100% pass rate with 68.42% achieving bachelor passes and 28.07% getting diploma passes.
When asked about the matric results, Shirley Billett, headmistress of Gill College, responded, “I am delighted. The performance of the class of 2018 was beyond expectations.
“The outcome of the matric results is again a proof of what a bit of additional effort can do.
“With support from the parents, the energy and determination of the educators and a goal-orientated class anything can be achievable.
“2019 has its own challenges, but if we can continue with a balanced life, upholding our values and strive for excellence, we can only go from strength to strength,” Billett said.
The Sarah Baartman District consists of 50 high schools, of which four schools obtained a 100% pass rate.
Gill College shares this honour with the Global Leadership Academy in Jeffreys Bay, Hoërskool McLachlan in Joubertina and Victoria Girls’ High in Makhanda (formerly known as Grahamstown).
At Gill College, Michael du Raan (head boy in 2018) and Marli van Gend (head girl 2018) obtained A aggregates.
Van Gend also obtained first position in the Graaff-Reinet circuit and second place in the Sarah Baartman district.
Billett and Van Gend attended the awards ceremony held at the International Convention Centre in East London.
