THE triumphant Amavarara Football Club from Ezibeleni in Komani is set to take to the field in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.

This follows after the team won with two points (3-1) against Tede Brothers Football Club at the Ginsberg Sport Ground in King Williams Town.

Veteran defender, Nkosomzi Mzasi, scored a brace, while midfielder, Sihle Maso, scored the third goal – making them the first team from the Chris Hani District to represent the Eastern Cape at the prestigious play-offs.

Amavarara is one of eight teams from ABC Motsepe and SAB regional leagues to be in the same draw as 16 premier soccer league teams and eight national first division teams.

The draw will be conducted at the Premier Soccer League headquarters in Parktown next month.

“Amavarara, who has been very successful in the third-tier league, will not only represent the Chris Hani District, but also the Eastern Cape,” says SAFA EC Secretary, Isaac Klaas.

“It is our duty to support them.”

Sharing his sentiment, SAFA Chris Hanie President, Sandile Mata, says, “I am proud of this team. Their success is the result of football development. This is history in the making.”

According to Mata, Thandolwethu Dayimani from Ilinge stands out: winning the u.13 tournament for Philget Mzazi Junior Senior School and securing two provincial Kay Motsepe School Cups for Lingelihle High School.
