An athletic coach from Cradock lost his leg when a man, unknown to him and for no known reason, shot him in the leg on April 2, this year.
Bonakele Ntshangase (41), after receiving treatment in a Qgeberha hospital, now has to travel to Cape Town regularly for further treatment and the fitting of a prosthesis. He has no medical aid and has to cover his own expenses.
“The man came up behind me and shot me in the leg where I was standing, near the academy.
“I did not know him at all, but the police have arrested him and he is in a jail at present. He appears in court again on May 30,” Bonakele explained.
At Bonakele Running Academy and Ikhamba Athletic Club in Cradock, Ntshangase is the head coach. He coaches adults and school children and is especially interested to watch the progress of one u/12 girl, who is already a record holder in the 1 200m sprint for her age group. Social runners have also joined his academy.
Ntshangase said the loss of his leg will not stop him from coaching and he is adamant that he is going to take part in the 2024 Paralympics in France.
- Unfortunately, he has no medical scheme and has to pay all these expenses out of his own pocket. His telephone number is 063 848 8261.
