A REPORT served before the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality (DBNLM) council, revealed that the municipality is paying Eskom between R1.2 million and R1.4 million just in interest.

In the budget and treasury report, it is stated that the municipality owes Eskom R11.8 million, but treasury said when unpacking the account, the municipality actually owed Eskom R8 million.

Treasury, however, warns that the municipality should start paying the current Eskom account and make the billing a part of the interest dispute.

In the budget and treasury report, it is stated that Eskom is charging the municipality incorrect tariffs and that they fail to supply the municipality with the relevant information.

DBNLM budget and treasury is of the meaning that DBNLM owe Eskom only half of the amount, because the rest would have been all the interest incurred.

Legal advice has been obtained by budget and treasury.
