DR BEYERS NAUDE MUNICIPALITY | DA mayor survives another motion of no confidence

A second attempt by the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality’s ANC and CSA councillors to get rid of the DA’s Ewald Loock as mayor and Ricardo Smith as council’s chief whip, failed.

A second attempt by the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality’s ANC and CSA councillors to get rid of the
DA’s Ewald Loock as mayor and Ricardo Smith as council’s chief whip, failed.

Legal action is now on the cards as another walk out and corruption
allegations saw the ANC and CSA furious.

Just as with the previous council meeting, the DA, FF+ and EFF councilors walked out during last night’s (May 11) meeting, leaving the speaker, Cheslin Felix (CSA)
without a quorum to proceed with the motion of no confidence in Loock and
Smith.

Felix made it clear that he will take legal action against the three parties that
walked out, as well as allegations of corruption still prevailing on the side
of officials and some members of the ANC within municipalities.

Dr Beyers Naude is currently a hung council with the DA occupying 10 seats. The Freedom Front Plus and EFF each have one. The ANC has 11 seats and the CSA one.
