Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality (DBNLM) former Mayor, Ewald Loock, asked politicians to take hands and stand together for service delivery.
Yesterday, Loock stood up during a council meeting with a dark cloud of a motion of no confidence in him by the ANC, hanging upon him. In his mayoral address he blamed the municipal system for failing the people.
“If you think I failed my duties, the system failed the people,” he told council.
Loock said since November 24, 2021, he visited all areas within the DBNLM.
“We are before clear challenges, especially financial challenges,” said Loock.
He pointed out water supply problems, vandalism, people using municipal assets without paying for the usage, refuge removals and the poor condition and challenges of gravel roads. Loock commended the communication department for their hard work, but he expressed his concern that only 20% of the DBNLM receive the necessary communication. He pointed out that the majority of residents don’t have access to the necessary platforms of communication by the municipality.
- Yesterday Loock did not survive the ANC’s third attempt to get rid of him as mayor (story on page 1). This follows the Wednesday, May 11, council meeting which ended with a collaborating three-party walk-out.
