THE Grootfontein Choir from Middelburg once again made everybody at the college proud by being named the overall winners of the 2018 National Agricultural Colleges Choral Competition (NACCC).

This talented group of students went to Potchefstroom during the April holidays to compete against eight agricultural colleges at the national competition.

The other colleges which took part were Taung AC, Cedara AC, Fort Cox AC, Glen AC, Tsolo AC, Potchefstroom AC, Tompi Seleka AC and Owen Sithole AC.

They competed in the following categories and achieved these results: 80% in own choice, 82% in Afrikaans piece, 74% in Western piece and 72% in African piece.

They also achieved 50% in the male and 75% in the female categories.

Grootfontein beat all the other colleges by achieving an average of 76%, just edging out second placed Glen Agricultural College with 75% and Taung Agricultural College with 71.33% in third.

This was possible because of the commitment and sacrifices of the choristers, the coordinator of the choir, Beauty Mokgwamme, the conductor, Silindile Landelo and support by sports administrator, Niel Schoeman.

“Despite the challenges related to time, this choir is a living proof that desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of their goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable them to attain the success they seek,” Themba Cebani, principal at Grootfontein College of Agriculture, said proudly.
