“ONLY those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.” ~ T.S Eliot. That is the attitude adopted by the Grootfontein soccer team (GST) of 2018. The enthusiastic agricultural students hit the ground running in the pursuit of victory.
Players resumed training on July 23 in preparation for two big tournaments in the next two months.
During the College Sports Arts and Culture SA, which will take place from August 9 to 12 in Port Elizabeth, GST will partake as an invitational team. Their final tournament and highlight for the year will be from September 28 to October 6, when GST will compete against other agricultural colleges from all over South Africa during the annual NACSANO colleges sports week in Potchefstroom.
On July 28 the team played a friendly game against the NWGA Eastern Cape Squad at Grootfontein College of Agriculture. The field has adopted the name “Slaghuis” since GST hasn’t lost a game this year.
Grootfontein Soccer Team proved to be far too strong for the opponents after an avalanche of goals as the game ended in a 12-2 victory.
On August 5, GST is scheduled to lock horns with the provincial squad of the East Cape Midlands TVET Colleges (EMC) in Graaff-Reinet.
According to their coach, Phutiane T Letsoalo, the team is still adamant about bringing the first ever NACSANO trophy to Grootfontein.
“GST is a team that prides itself in unity, hard work, good sportsmanship and excellence in the game of football.
