THE Inxuba Yethemba Municipality has announced a 90-day amnesty period from June 12 within which all businesses must become compliant with IYM regulations.

Business owners must make sure that they have applied and/or are in the possession of the following documents:

? Rezoning: Residents are not allowed to operate any kind of business from a residential site without formal consent from the Municipality. Any property from which a business is being operated, has to be rezoned from being a residential erf to being a business/industrial property.

Application forms for rezoning are available from the offices of the Building Inspector/Town Planning at Technical Services in Nuwe Street (across from Rolfe Laboratories.)

? Business/trading licences: Businesses must also comply with Business Act 71 of 1991, which deals with the procedure of application and issuing of business/trading licences, carrying of business and operating hours. Businesses are not allowed to commence trading prior to a licence being issued by the municipality.

Application forms for business licences are available from Community Services inside the Middelburg Clinic Building (next to ABSA in Van Reenen Street).

IYM has urged all business owners to ensure they are trading according to municipal regulations and make use of the 90-day amnesty period, after which non-compliant businesses will face closure.
