Inyathi Senior Secondary School from Ntabethemba in the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality will represent the Chris Hani District in the provincial u/19 Kay Motsepe Schools Cup at Sai Batallion Army Base in Makhanda tomorrow, October 15.

This comes after the school won the district playoffs at the Dampy Adams Sports Complex in Komani last month. Inyathi won 5-4 on penalties in the final against hosts Nkwanca SSS after the game ended in a 2-all draw.

The six schools that were representing all six local municipalities under the Chris Hani District were drawn into two groups of three teams for each group.

Inyathi booked a place in the final after winning group B against Cala Village SSS (Sakhisizwe LM) and Cofimvaba SSS (Intsika Yethu LM) while Nkwanca SSS topped Group A with two wins against Freemantle AHS (Emalahleni LM) and Nyanga SSS (DR AB Xuma LM).

Inyathi High School Football Head Coach Sam Mdlokolo said the players are pumped up and are in good spirit with one vision which is to emulate Maria Louw in the tournament.

“Yes, I can assure you that the boys are pumped up because we want to go and represent the Eastern Cape Province in the national finals. We also want to thank SAFA Chris Hani because they will be transporting us to Makhanda,” said Mdlokolo.

Maria Louw and Lingelihle High School from Ilinge Township are the only two schools from the Chris Hani District who managed to win the provincial schools tournament.

Chris Hani District Head of School Football Mphuthumi Vanqa wished the school all the best in the tournament.

“The standard of football that was displayed in the district playoffs shows that the development of football in this region is on another level. We want to wish Inyathi SSS all the best of luck in the tournament and pray that they bring home,” said Vanqa.
