Local off to Women’s Sevens World Cup

ZENAY Jordaan from Middelburg has been capped yet again for the Springbok Women’s Sevens Rugby team that left on Saturday to participate at the World Cup in San Francisco.


ZENAY Jordaan from Middelburg has been capped yet again for the Springbok Women’s Sevens Rugby team that left on Saturday to participate at the World Cup in San Francisco.

Zenay is the first lady’s sevens player to play in her third world cup for South Africa’s Lady Blitzbokke.

Zenay is the daughter of Pat and Linda Jordaan. They are both teachers at Van der Merwe Gedenkskool in Midros, Middelburg, and Zenay matriculated at Middelland Secondary School in Midros.

Since 2008 she played for the Springbok rugby team and has also been captain of the 7s and 15 rugby team.

Earlier this year she played for the Sevens Senior Springbok team at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Australia. During their last game against Kenya Jordaan scored a try for South Africa.

The Rugby World Cup Sevens will take place from 20 to 22 July in San Francisco. The SA team arrived in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon after a 25-hour trip from Cape Town via Frankfurt.
