LAST week Saturday greeted 242 runners to a beautiful spring day in the Karoo at Fairview farm in Middelburg.

The Lormar Endurance Trail Run started with only 40 runners, just three years ago.

Now this two-day trail run hosts runners from all over the country.

Day one of the trail run started with wild Arabian horses galloping past runners as opening ceremony before they ran into the sunset to complete a night running experience under the beautiful Karoo nightscape.

Hannes Henning and Michelle Botha crossed the line in first place in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Day two of the trail run offered two categories, the 12km sheep run and the 24km horse run. Both of these runs offered quite the challenge going over Wolwekop mountain and the horse run ascending Khoi San gorge as well. The 12km sheep run was won by Stefan Meyer and Tanja van der Merwe in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. The 24km horse run was won by SP van der Walt and Annelie Gregory in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Bad Peter, an acoustic folk band, set the mood with a performance in the middle of the veld to finish off an ultimate Karoo running experience.

Fairview will also host the Lormar Endurance MTB Tours on Friday September 28 to Sunday, September 30 and October 5 to 7, providing enormous job opportunities to the local community.
