Dongwe-based
side MK Academy FC will represent the Chris Hani District in the SAB League
Provincial Playoffs in Aliwal North during the first weekend of July.
This comes after they beat opponents Xalanga Blues of Cala 3-0 yesterday at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex in
Komani.
After
dominating in the first 30 minutes of the game, Xalanga Blues failed to convert
their chances and the side from Dongwe got one chance before half time and
scored through their winger Siphesihle Mbhem.
After
that goal MK were pressing for another goal as they were all over the side from
Cala, but they could not find a goal until Referee Ndumiso Mbaxa from Ngcobo
blew his whistle for half time break.
After
the interval, the two-time Chris Hani Nedbank Cup SAB Regional League champions
continued to press for another goal and they found it 15 minutes into the
second half after Lwando Kota scored a brilliant free kick just outside the box
to make it 2-0.
The
Bulelani Sindelo-coached side continued to dominate the game until they got
their third goal that sealed the game for them. The goal came from second half
substitute Yusuf Qolo who scored a tap-in from Kota’s pass.
MK
Academy head coach, Bulelani Sindelo, said the bigger picture is the promotion to
the ABC Motsepe League for his team.
“We are glad to qualify for the Provincial
Playoffs for the first time in the SAB League. We have qualified for the
Provincial Tournaments in the Nedbank Cup. I think now is our time to get promoted.
We really need a second team in the ABC Motsepe League as the Region.”
The
South African Football Association in the Chris Hani District said they will
support the Champions with a bus full of fuel to Aliwal North. They added that they are still in talks with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture
in the Chris Hani District to support the team with accommodation and catering.
The
SAB Provincial Playoffs will be played from 1 to 3 July in Aliwal North, hosted by
SAFA Joe Gqabi. All eight District Champions in the Eastern Cape will be
fighting for two spots in the Provincial ABC Motsepe League next season.
