THE community of Lesseyton, N6 View Village successfully hosted the inaugural 2022 Colourful 10km Fun Run/Walk for community development on Saturday morning.

The event, organised by members of N6 View Village featured 10km and 5km events for adults, and a 2km fun run for children under the age of 10.

The organising committee, led by their chairperson, Portia Gazi and secretary, Ntsikelelo Gila, said the event was a way of raising funds to support the development in the area, while it was also a way of encouraging the youth and adults in the community and surrounding areas to participate in an event that promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Gazi said they came up with the idea to help this new community with service delivery.

“We came up with this initiative to say we cannot wait for service delivery from the municipality for us to generate funds so that we can start to fix things in our area.

“We want to buy a (water) tank with the money we got from this fun run, so that our people can have water,” said Gazi.

More than 50 runners took to the N6, with Akhona Makila, of Cape Town’s Sanlam Running Club, claiming the honours in the 10km race.

Makila (31) finished in a time of 33.47 followed by 14-year-old Kamva Nkwentsha, in a time off 37.33 and third-placed Thembalethu Dom (29) with the clock on 38.17.

The event was also graced by the attendance of veteran local long distance runner, Malungisa Nomwa (67), who took part in the 10km fun run.
