A positive outcome into the investigation of purchasing agricultural land west of Aberdeen could boost the town and surroundings economy.
The Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality’s (DBNLM) Department Corporate Services informed council that Karoo Plan PTY Ltd had applied to investigate the possibility of purchasing the portion of land adjacent to the R61.
According to documents tabled before council, the property is not developed and can be defined as vacant agricultural property.
At a DBNLM Corporate Services Standing Committee meeting, it was said that the property is in close proximity of the R61 and the N9.
Karoo Plan PTY Ltd told the department they would like to use the subject property for retail, agricultural cooperative services and tourism purposes.
The department, in its documents tabled before council, explained that once the development kicked off and became reality, it could attract economic investment that would benefit the community greatly.
It was stated that the property would also make provision for trucks to stop and rest, especially the abnormal vehicles transporting wind turbines and as a result does not have any impact on the current traffic flow.
Council heard that the development would have positive consequences for the Aberdeen economy, improve the visual impact of the area, create job opportunities for the local community and would have a positive effect on property values in the area.
Council on Wednesday, May 11, moved unopposed with the motion and all were in favour of the proposed investigation into the development by Karoo Plan Ltd Pty.
