THE Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) will conduct a “Know Your Traffic Fine Status” in Cradock, Middelburg, Graaff- Reinet and surrounding areas in the next couple of weeks.
According to Monde Mkalipi of RTIA, the purpose of the action is to reach out to motorists and encourage them to check their outstanding traffic fines. He said that a couple of RTIA officials would also provide information to road users to enable them to select options to resolve their traffic fines.
Mkalipi said the main objective of the community awareness programme is to encourage positive driver behaviour, voluntary compliance with road traffic laws, curb road fatalities and also to penalise and rehabilitate repeat offenders.
The Department of Transport has declared 2018 as the year of improved road safety in South Africa and wishes to inform road users that, within the first 32 days of receiving an infringement notice, motorists have certain options to choose from.
These options include making representation to dispute a traffic infringement, arrange to pay for the infringements in instalments, apply for revocation of the enforced order or elect to be tried in court.
Concerned mobile officers will be visiting Cradock Town Hall on September 13, Graaff-Reinet DLTC on September 18 and 19 and Middelburg DLTC on October 16 and 17.
Each session will take place between 09:00 and 14:00.
