KOMANI’S Queen’s College Boys’ Primary School welcomed Aliwal North Primary School in Komani last week Thursday, in eight rugby matches, which were played on two fields.

The u/13A team hammered the visitors 48-3 in the last game of the day, at Queen’s Primary Forest East Grounds, while other games were played at the Forest West Grounds.

Queen’s College and Aliwal North have a long-standing academic and sporting relationship over the years.

Queen’s U/13A head coach, Erich Humpel, stressed the importance of the game.

“We would like to stress the importance of our relationship with Aliwal North and the fact that it has been a good one for many, many years.

“We would like this relationship to continue for many years to come, but in competition, we tend to forget about the special bonds we have and things become ‘heated’ and disagree with a referee’s decision, or get involved in an unnecessary debate with the opposition’s bench, but at the end of the game we shake hands and become friends again,” said Humpel.

The head coach congratulated the players on the win and was pleased with how they went about their business on the day.

“I want to congratulate the boys on the big win. I think they tried their level best to execute the plan as we wanted. I think, in the second half, we managed to correct a few things and that helped us to get more tries.

“It is now about preparing for the next matches and staying humble, try to work harder and make sure we get more positive results in our next matches,” Humpel said.

In the eight games that were played were played on the day from U/7s to U/13s, Queen’s only lost two games and drew one, winning the other five.
