SOUTH Africa national road agency (SANRAL) recently visited Graaff-Reinet as part of their “taking SANRAL to the people” campaign. It was held at the Graaff-Reinet Town Hall on June 22.

The main objective of this event was to proactively engage with local stakeholders across all spheres of government, business and community groups. The delegation was also on a fact-finding mission in their attempts to intensify their public-private partnerships when conducting their business.

Local SMMEs and contractors from previously disadvantaged communities, especially those in construction, got an opportunity to voice their concerns about current and upcoming projects in the area.

According to SANRAL’s transformation manager, Ismael Issa, “Our main objective with this engagement is to ensure that the construction sector is inclusive and accommodates stakeholders from previously disadvantaged communities.”

The event presented an opportunity for all involved to deliberate on ways to improve the working relationships with all stakeholders.

According to local contractor Aldridge Blom, “this session has helped me a lot as I am now clearer about what is needed from me as a contractor in order to be awarded work by SANRAL.”
