THE SANRAL information session regarding signage in and around towns, was held on Tuesday, March 27, at the Langenhoven Library in Somerset East.
This session was organised by Alan Hobson, chairperson of Blue Crane Tourism, to enable SANRAL (South African Road Agency) to explain their policies regarding street and road signs as well as what the legal requirements for these are.
According to Ros Turner, tourism officer at the Blue Crane Tourism Centre, the meeting was very well attended and most successful.
The local hospitality industry was well represented as well as local business and councillors and officers from the Blue Crane Route Municipality (BCRM).
Chumisa Tsolekile Nhingana, the representative of SANRAL, was the spokesperson and gave a very informative Power Point presentation.
A host of pertinent questions were asked and answered.
It was also evident that it is of the utmost importance that the information provided at this session will need to be incorporated into the by-laws of the BCRM.
It seems that the best solution for all the communities as well as the municipality would have to be found and in order for that to happen the public should also be able to partake and provide valuable input.
The next step is therefore in the hands of the BCRM to commence with this important project.
Turner said that she still has quite a few information packs available which were handed out by SANRAL representatives at the meeting.
Anybody who takes an interest in this matter can collect the information packs from her at the Tourism Office in Paulet Street.
