THE Templeton High School under 16 rugby team, affectionately known as the “Lion Kings”, has been rejuvenated since coach Russell Adams, known in rugby circles as Calla Jones or The Legend, took over the coaching reigns at the beginning of last year.
A fresh vibe and team spirit is evident at their training sessions and team talks.
The pre-match spirit building sessions are often joined by members of other teams and fellow learners, due to the contagious atmosphere that is created.
The team has achieved several milestones over the past two years, including an emphatic victory over the highly rated Marlow Agricultural School, a feat that has been unheard of for a long time.
However, the team is very often weakened in away games due to financial constraints.
Many of the boys come from low-income families and can not manage the heavy financial burden of travelling to matches. The team currently plays in borrowed maroon jerseys which are torn, a far cry from the traditional green and gold which are the school colours.
Any sponsorship towards playing kit or contributions towards travelling fees will be highly appreciated, since they have to travel to Middelburg, Somerset East, Adelaide and Cradock when the season resumes next quarter.
