A 32-year-old
suspect was arrested in Komani by a multidisciplinary police task team for
transporting abalone worth thousands of rands.
Police
spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni said the suspect was arrested by the crime
intelligence, Mlungisi crime prevention, K9 and public order police.
“Members
acted upon information of a vehicle coming from East London and quickly
responded. Abalone to the value of R184 950 was recovered and the suspect was
arrested for two counts,” said Mdleleni.
She
said count one was for possession of abalone and count two was for contravening
marine living resources.
The
suspect will appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court soon.
Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Zuziwe Magqashela commended the police for the
quick response.
