A TALENTED girl from Somerset East, Lente Taljard, has been selected for the U/15 South African Schools’ tennis team.
A total of 16 provincial teams from across South Africa competed in Pretoria from April 27 to 30, vying for one of the six places in the team.
Taljard was one of only two from the almost 200 girls who made it through the week without losing a singles match, beating top seeds from Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Boland and the Western Province.
Taljard sent a very big thank you to Inalise and Minnette Pienaar from Matchpoint Tennis Academy, who have been coaching her since she was only eight years old.
She also thanked the Cradock High School tennis squad and Ricky de Klerk, with whom she trains on a weekly basis.
