RIKA Scheun, manager of Huis Silwerjare said, she as well as the board members were overwhelmed, overjoyed and excited with the unexpected but more than welcome windfall that came their way recently.

According to Hannetjie Marais, spokesperson and chairperson of Amakhala Emoyeni Community Fund Trust, they will help with upgrades to Huis Silwerjare. This forms part of a number of Socio-Economic Development and Enterprise Development initiatives undertaken by the trust.

A contractor was appointed to paint the buildings of Silwerjare outside, as well as on the inside. Painters are already working on this project. A huge lorry load of miscellaneous pieces of equipment and other goods were also delivered.

Scheun said Huis Silwerjare has more than 60 residents and a comprehensive staff to keep everything running smoothly.

“The board and residents express their heartfelt thanks to Amakhala Wind Farm and assure them that this visionary donation will be put to good use and that everybody will benefit from it for a long time to come. This kind and benevolent act will be remembered for a long time and we shall give thanks every day,” said Scheun.

The windfarm is located near Cookhouse and Bedford.

A joint venture of Exxaro Resources and Tata Power, Cennergi, is the owner and developer of the wind farm.

The trust activities are limited to the communities within a 50 kilometre radius of the Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm. The present board of trustees comprises of six members, namely the wind farm representative, who is also the chairperson, Hannetjie Marais, Gavin Saterdag (Bedford representative), Chris Brockwell (landowner representative), Masixole Tukani (Adelaide representative) and Anele Stofile (Somerset East representative). The Cookhouse position is vacant at the moment.
