Information shared with the police led to the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker carrying Mandrax tablets worth R9 million in Komani on February 8.
According to police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni, in a crime intelligence-driven operation involving members of the K9 Unit and Red Guard Security, the team acted on information concerning an Isuzu truck allegedly transporting drugs from Gauteng to East London.
The team spotted the vehicle on Cathcart Road in Komani and successfully halted it.
“Upon investigation, they found 111 bags containing 1 000 Mandrax tablets each, with a street value of R9 million,” said Mdleleni.
Police confiscated both the drugs and the vehicle, as it was used to commit the crime.
Mdleleni reported that a 55-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession and dealing of drugs.
He is due to appear before the Komani Magistrates’ Court on February 10.
